Theme: Management and dissemination of toponymic data online

Organised by: Fiontar, Dublin City University in collaboration with the Placenames Branch, Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
Aims
The aim of this workshop was to create a forum to present work by researchers and industrial practitioners in the area of toponymy. It also provided a platform on which to forge links and partnerships between international researchers and industry practitioners.
The workshop focussed on three main areas:
1. Placenames research
2. Technical solutions for the management of toponymic data
3. Mapping solutions:
- Synchronisation of toponymic data between databases
- Bilingual/multilingual toponymic data
Helen Kerfoot from the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names was keynote speaker.
